A quick stop in Wellington... if you're only planning on spending a day here then it's time to change those plans. This beautiful city has so much to offer. Can I live here please?
Exploring the Backpacker-central towns of Rotorua and Taupo, finding plenty to do and see... hiking the Tongariro Crossing, luging down a mountain, and, when all else fails, mini golf.
An evening of culture at Tamaki Maori Village... a hangi feast, learning the haka and singing the Maori alphabet. One of our best experiences so far.
Leg two of the Kiwi Experience! Digging our own hot pools in the beach, tubing through glow-worm caves, and exploring the Shire.
The first leg of the Kiwi Experience took us up to the Bay os Islands and Cape Reinga, the winterless north. A place of Maori legends, ancient Kauri forests and beautiful coastlines.
It was time to get on our first Kiwi Experience bus – the big green backpacker bus that’ll be taking us round New Zealand for the next 5 or 6 weeks. We didn’t know what to expect to be honest, as we’d heard all sorts… it’s the party bus, the “big green f*ck-bus”… not the best reputation... I think it’s fair to say we were very curious about what it was actually going to be like...
An overview of our time in Auckland... the city didn't give the best first impression but it grew on us with every new place we explored.
After a couple of days in the city, it was time to get out and see something new. Waiheke Island is a short ferry ride from Auckland, bursting with award winning vineyards, gorgeous beaches and secluded forest hikes. You need to go there.
